Epipen Information

There is a lot of very helpful information at the EpiPen website www.epipen.co.uk

You can order a Trainer Pen  (a replica with no needle or medication). You can also order an EpiPen Auto-injector carry case.  Both of these are free from the EpiPen website.

You can register your EpiPen with the website and they will e-mail/text you when your pen is going out of date.  It could be a while since you have used your EpiPen and most people forget to check the use by date.

You can download and print out Allergy advice sheets in several European languages

You can download and print out a Travel  Certificate and. ask your GP/Consultant to complete the details.  The Travel Certificate will state that you require to have your Epipen with you at all times while on board a plane.

Please ask your GP or Health Centre to order the Trainer Pen and information for your Health Centre. Some do not have the information and people are sometimes prescribed an Epipen and no training is given on how to use it.   The distributor Meda Pharmaceuticals can provide all this for your Health Centre.

Anyone likely to have to inject be it the person themselves or any other person please have them practice with the Trainer Pen. It can be very daunting the first few times using an EpiPen. It is a thick needle and takes quite a bit of pressure injecting when you are having an attack.

Some people are prescribed an Anapen. These are used slightly differently www.anapen.co.uk   Phone: 01748 828 785

Containers, Translation Cards and ID Cards/Tags can be purchased from YellowCross. Details and prices at:  www.yellowcross.co.uk  or Phone: 01252 820321

Epipen Holders and Auto Injector Pouches available at Activeaide http://www.activeaide.com/uk

There is also a lot of information at the Anaphylaxis Campaign Website: www.anaphylaxis.org.uk/   Phone Helpline: 01252 542029

In case of overdose or accidental injection with the EpiPen (especially accidental injection into the fingers or thumb) you should seek immediate medical help, as this may result in a rise in blood pressure and loss of blood flow to the area accidentally injected. This will need to be monitored in a hospital.

Always Remember do not place your thumb over the black tip – the black tip of the pen is the end you place against your thigh
